refbook identified as key SportsTech innovator of the Asia-Pacific region

refbook has been identified as one of 10 impressive startups in the Asia-Pacific SportsTech Startup Selection 2022. Released as part of SportsTechX's Asia-Pacific SportsTech Report 2022, the selection represents the sportstech innovation capabilities of the region.

refbook was identified by a panel of 11 SportsTech innovators renowned for collectively driving the growth and success of the ecosystem through their
engagement in new and leading initiatives. Refbook's nomination places the sports' officials management platform alongside other leading technology companies including Mr Yum (Australia), Netrin (India), Samsara (Australia) and Tomorrow (Singapore).

According to SportsTechX, there is lots to talk about when it comes to the Asia-Pacific market, especially given the vast geography covered by the yearly report. Here are some of the main highlights:

  • $3.1b invested in SportsTech in 2021, almost 5 times the figure in 2020. Average deal value of $47m makes it the highest in the world but median value of $1.7m is closer to the norm. Plenty more to come from the fastest growing region in SportsTech

  • After playing second fiddle to China for a while, India has emerged as the top SportsTech country across the region after topping the investment charts in 2020 and now in 2021 by a significant margin. Hong Kong is the big winner in 2021 as home to one of the world’s premier NFT service providers while there are encouraging signs in Australia and some Gulf countries, Saudi Arabia & Qatar are especially interesting given their growing importance in the sports world.

  • The Asia-Pacific region has seven recognised SportsTech VC organisations with five accelerator/incubator programs to help drive growth of the regional sector.
